Youth Ministry Grade 5 - 12

 Witness Nights

6:00-6:15 Food

We will split the 6^th – 12^th grade boys and girls up (boys in gym, girls in Jo Call) as they arrive. All Core and youth team leaders will separate by gender as well. Each group will eat and mingle for 15-20 minutes. Next we will gather everyone and prayerfully begin the night. I’m inviting more adults on these nights – those who wish to be involved as Core, but can’t be. These extra adults will add to an atmosphere of support for our kids. I’ll ask that each group acknowledge the additional people by drawing attention to St Paul’s exhortation in Hebrews 12:

¹ Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us ² and persevere in running the race that lies before us

while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God.

Consider how he endured such opposition from sinners, in order that you may not grow weary and lose heart.

In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood.

12        So strengthen your drooping hands and your weak knees.

13        Make straight paths for your feet, that what is lame may not be dislocated but healed.

14        Strive for peace with everyone, and for that holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

The night’s virtue will be introduced by announcing which it is and also its synonyms followed by a brief Q&A of what the kids think it means. This will be followed by a movie clip that will exemplify the virtue and intrigue the kids and set up the “witness speaker” - an adult who has real life experience and can relate their experience and how the virtue of the night was of value. Small groups will follow and will be an opportunity for high school teens to introduce/engage/visit with middle school kids. Find out which ones will attend their high school, band, sports team, etc. Next we’ll move the kids into a game or an activity followed by re-group and send.

Sunday Evenings 5:00PM 

Life Teen LT (Grades 9-12)

 

LT is for teens in grades 9-12 and meets on Sunday nights after youth mass from 6:00PM-7:30PM.  LT incorporates a large variety of activities for teens including education nights or Life Nights where we learn more about the Catholic Faith, Adoration nights, Witness Nights as well as some nights where our youth minister speaks on topics relevant to teens. In addition to these nights, we also generally have skate nights, a casino night and some other fun nights. Our goal in LT is to give the teens a place to belong where they feel accepted, meet new friends and learn a little about what it means to be a Catholic.

 

 Xtreme XT (Grades 6-8)

 

XT is a group for youth in grades 6-8. XT meets on Sunday nights after Youth Mass from 6:00-7:30PM.  In XT we spend a lot of time learning about what is taught in the Gospels as well as the basics of Catholicism.  We also have Adoration nights, Witness Nights, skate nights, a parent night, a casino night and some nights where our youth minister talks about different topics relevant to the middle school youth.  Our goal in XT is to help the middle school kids develop their own catholic identity by giving them a safe place to have fun, learn and make new friends.

 

Jr. Xtreme JrXT (Grade 5)

 

JrXT is a group for youth in grade 5. JrXT meets on Sunday nights after Youth Mass from 6:00-7:30PM. The intent of JrXT is to hook kids into youth ministry by introducing them to the Sunday night model we use for XT and LT, but still maintaining enough structure and “formal” educational approaches to keep them feeling comfortable and safe. The Sunday night model includes light food, fellowship and games, but we will definitely spend time reviewing basic Catholic teaching. These lessons include, but are not limited to, the standard catholic prayers, the 10 commandments, the Beatitudes, the Sacraments, the precepts of the Church, the Stations of the cross, the Rosary, The order of the Mass, how to go to confession, the gifts of the Holy spirit, the fruits of the Holy Spirit, the seasons of the liturgical year, the basics of scripture and more.  Our goal in JrXT is ensure that the students will receive a thorough review of key elements and principles of Catholicism.
